Sewer Rate Details…

Why is the Beulah council taking a “one size fits all” approach to setting our Water and Sewer utility rates? The current and proposed fee structure I submit that a ‘use more, pay more’ rate structure, referred to here as a tiered rate structure, Communities across Michigan use tiered rates and property taxes to fund […]

Sewer Rates?

Why is the Beulah council taking a “one size fits all” approach to setting our Water and Sewer utility rates? The current and proposed fee structure I submit that a tiered water rate structure (use more, pay more) Communities across Michigan use tiered rates and property taxes to fund and maintain their water and sewer […]

Special Assessments?

We’ve been told by the Baker-Tilly consultants that a Special Assessment to fund our Sewer debt repayment is not an option because it can only be levied on new water and sewer connections. Connections fees levied by the Village were some $8,000 last year and raised to some $9,000 this year. Question here is where […]

New Sewer Rates…

At the April 2025 Beulah Village Council meeting, a proposal was discussed to raise Sewer “Ready to Serve” fees by some $250 per quarter over the next 2+ years was discussed. Specifically, ready to serve fees (billed as fees per Residential Equivalent Unit or REU) would increase $50 per quarter in July 2025, with an […]

And Another Consultant?

Apparently the village is having trouble keeping track of the Sewer Project grant monies received to date. Seems like the village actually has to account for how this grant money is spent. Council voted at the April council meeting to retain another consultant to help with accounting issues that our Village Treasurer is not currently […]

Village Manager?

Village President and Village Pro Tem announced at the May 13th council meeting that they have been shopping for a Village Manager. Apparently council is overworked, citing long hours and low pay (again). So why are they trying to reduce the council size? Council size is now six. Let’s find another Beulah resident willing to […]

Still Waiting…

Gets more interesting… New village legal retained by council at the May 13th council meeting. Apparently our current attorney is swamped and too busy to respond to the village’s needs on a timely basis. May 9th post… Appears that the village is reviewing the validity of the petitions submitted to stop the village council from […]

Signatures Verified Yet?

Still no word from Beulah Village Clerk on petition signature verification, as of April 15th, 2025. Still no word back from Beulah Village Council or staff acknowledging that valid petitions were submitted, as of April 15, 2025. Chapter 2, Section 62.1.(4) of The General Law Village, Act 3 of 1895 requires petition signature verification and […]

Council Back to 6 Members?

New Council member Edward Popour was appointed to the Beulah Village Council on April 8th, 2025. But isn’t the Council size limited to 4 trustees and the Village President, per Ordinance 2025-001 passed by the Village Council in February 2025? Hmmm….

Petitions Submitted

10 petitions with 47 signatures submitted to the village office on March 25th. Clock is ticking on signature verification and publication of notice that council size will remain at seven, with six trustees and the village president. The issue will be placed on the next regular election ballot for Beulah, unless council decides to call […]

45+ and counting…

Signature count over the top… Still collecting signatures to get Council to take the Village of Beulah voters seriously. More transparency please! For those of you still considering, petition we’re asking for signatures on is attached.
